Who sharpens my shears?

Le Taillant started out as a knife-sharpening workshop for home cooks and kitchen professionals in Brussels — that's where this craft began.

Over time, hairdressers kept asking us during appointments whether we also sharpened their hairdressing shears — other cutlers in Brussels tended to damage the edge, lacking the specific technique this craft requires.

So we took the time to train and invest in the right equipment — Japanese water stones, settings specific to bevelled and convex shears — to offer Brussels hairdressers sharpening that matches their tool.

Today, Arnaud and Maxendre put that know-how to work for every hairdresser in Brussels, so they get more pleasure and precision out of every cut.

General

What does the "Certified Craftsmanship" label mean?
It's an official recognition issued by the Belgian State, certifying that Arnaud genuinely practises a craft trade and holds the know-how that goes with it. The certified profile is publicly viewable on lesartisans.be.
How much does sharpening cost?
25 € per pair by post or at the workshop, and 30 € in-salon — in that case you're paying for speed, avoiding the 5-day wait of a mail-in or drop-off.
What types of shears do you sharpen?
Professional hairdressing shears, both classic bevelled and Japanese convex: cutting, texturizing and thinning shears. Contact us if you're unsure about a particular model.
Do you sharpen other types of shears or knives?
This site is dedicated to hairdressing shears, but we also sharpen kitchen and sewing scissors, at 15 € per pair — contact us to find out more.
How does the subscription work?
The subscription gives you 20% off every sharpening, at a rhythm you choose: every 12, 16 or 24 weeks. The discount is straightforward: it's easier to pick up the sharpening of your own work than to correct someone else's.

By post

How do I send my shears by post?
Contact us via the form to tell us how many pairs you have. We'll confirm the steps to follow, you pack your shears carefully and send them to the Auderghem workshop.
Is the mail-in service available across all of Belgium?
Yes. Mail-in sharpening is specifically designed for hairdressers who aren't based in Brussels.
How long does a mail-in shipment take?
Your shears are sharpened and sent back within 5 days of arriving at the workshop — transport time both ways is added on top, depending on the carrier chosen.

In-salon

Is the in-salon visit chargeable?
No, it's free from 4 pairs of shears ordered. Below 4 pairs, the visit is charged at 25 €.
How does booking an in-salon appointment work?
You contact us with your availability, we suggest a visit day, then get back to you to set the exact time.
Does the salon need to close during sharpening?
No, sharpening takes place on site while you keep working as normal.

At the workshop

Where is the workshop located?
1698 Chaussée de Wavre, 1160 Auderghem, Brussels — the same workshop as Le Taillant, the parent business specialising in knife sharpening.
How long does it take to get my shears back after dropping them off at the workshop?
Allow 5 days between drop-off and pick-up.
Do I need to book an appointment to drop off my shears?
Yes, contact us beforehand to arrange a drop-off time.
